I was Pinspired!

Friday, February 24th, 2012

Pinterest has inspired me to put up board and batten trim in my entry hall.

I used instructions from a blog called “It’s the little things.”

This “before” shot is taken from the entry door, the door to the left is to the garage, straight ahead is to the basement and the kitchen is on the right.  I wanted to add detail to this area and when I found the board and batten instructions via Pinterest I went for it. I started yesterday afternoon and finished earlier tonight.

I leveled the top 1×4 at 65 inches and nailed it in place.

I cut the battens to size and nailed them in every 12 inches.

Added a small piece above the first board to match the trim in my house.

Used butt joints in the corners.

Painted three coats of white to match my trim.  Finished!

My new rug/runner from Inweave fits perfectly.  Yea!  Done!

Bold Striped Curtains

Thursday, February 23rd, 2012

I found these curtains on Pinterest.  The tutorial to make them is on The Yellow Cape Cod Blog.  Sarah Macklem is the designer.  She has great skills.  Check out her blog, you won’t be sorry.  She explains bold pattern use here.

Inweave has been stocking lots of new fabrics that have bold patterns and textures.

Find our flocked taffeta here.

This is our Apple Green Swirl Jacquard.  We have more colors in this swirl fabric available.

I would love to see a little girl’s room done with curtains made of this fabric.

Find our rosette and ribbon taffeta fabrics here.  There are many more bold fabrics at Inweavefabric.com. Come explore.

Love This Headboard

Monday, February 20th, 2012

I found this bedroom on HGTV.com.  It was designed by Troy Beasley.

Troy commented:

This bedroom was designed with a huge 12-foot wide headboard in chocolate
brown mohair.

Design Tip: Cover up the entire wall with headboard for a lot of look.

The headboard would be easy to make.  I would use the same technique I demonstrated here,  but I would wrap the Styrofoam with batting before pinning the fabric into place.  Inweave has many suitable fabrics for this project.

This faux silk is called Endless Knot Rice Paper. $7.99 a yard.

This  Brown Flocked Taffeta is a new favorite of mine.  I think it would look incredible as a large scale headboard.  $8.99 per yard.

This Antique Gold Rosette is even better looking in person.  It would look beautiful as a headboard.  I am begging someone to try this fabric and send pictures. This is on sale for an incredible $7.99 right now.

If you do send me a picture of our fabric in a project you have completed I will send you a 40% off coupon.

Luke’s Dresser

Saturday, February 18th, 2012

I found a dresser for Luke’s room at a store that sells used motel furniture.  It had holes in the top where I assume they bolted down a TV.  Not a problem since the holes lowered the price and I planned to cover the top with licence plates anyway.

I bought licence plates at an antique store for about $3 each.  They weren’t all old.  I was going for a colorful mix.

I used small nails to nail the licence plates down.  I only smashed my thumb once.

I used four nails for each plate.

Done.  I’m going to go ice my thumb now.
