Not Your Basic Bulletin Board

Tuesday, February 7th, 2012

I previously showed you instructions to make a bulletin board.

I have a new plan.  These are incredibly easy to make,  even less expensive and can be made to any shape or size you want.

You will need:

  • A 4×8 sheet of Styrofoam insulation that can be purchased at any Lowe’s or Home Depot type store. You can find them in the insulation area.   They cost from $5 to$8 for the sheet.  They come in 4×4 size also.
  • Sharp knife.
  • Pins
  • Fabric (Preferably from Inweave, of course)

Use a sharp knife to cut the sheet to your specifications.  I like things a little wonky so my shapes are not your normal square or rectangle.

Warning – You will have to deal with those tiny white bits of Styrofoam that stick to everything.

Cut your fabric about 3 inches larger on each side than the shape you are covering.

Then you simply pull the fabric snugly over the shape and pin it in place with stick pins.

Mitre the corners like you would wrap a gift.  It keep things neater if you cut away any excess fabric in the corners.

TA DA!  These are so simple to make.  I made ten in a couple of hours.  This would be a fun project for a group.  4H or Scouts?  Boys might like camouflage or denim fabric.

We are using this as a fabric display, but I can think of so many uses.  Message center, Christmas card display, the jewelry keeper, headboard for a bed.  Frame a mirror in your bedroom with this and put jewelry on it or cover an entire wall, photo display, a red fabric heart for your valentine, the list goes on…

To mount them on the wall you could use finish nails, nails that have no head.  Hammer a couple of those into your wall then poke them through the back of your project.  This mount won’t hold a lot of weight so don’t hang too many  diamond tiaras on it.

Don’t you love this fabric?  I am having curtains made in the teal/charcoal.  I’ll post a picture when they are finished.

The fabric I used can be found here on our website.  So many fabrics would work it boggles the mind to think of the possibilities.  I better quit now.  I have enough problems without adding a boggled mind to the mix.

New Upholstery Threads

Wednesday, January 25th, 2012

Inweave has received an entire shipment of upholstery thread.

This is just a small sample of the colors available.

This delicious color is Key West Lime.   Yum.

Red Currant.

This is my favorite. It’s called Honey.

These threads should be online soon and if I know Julie (I do), she will put a ridiculously low price on them.

I want a new bag!

Tuesday, March 15th, 2011

I am not a purse kind of person.  I think this video might change that.

No sew bag.

I am definately going to try this.  Just have to pick out the perfect fabric.

These are fabrics I am thinking of trying.

I can see this last one as a gigantic beach bag.  Large enough to hold beach towels, toys and swim gear.  The next time I am at the store I will pick up some fabrics and try this.  Leave me a message if there is a fabric you would like to see made up as a bag.  How about denim?  So many choices!

Fabric Shade for a Pergola

Thursday, February 24th, 2011

I’m so ready for spring.  Let’s plan a spring project.

I love the look of a wooden pergola, but my  pansy white skin needs a better sun block.  I found instructions on how to add a fabric  shade to a pergola using grommets and cables on ehow.com.  Get your outdoor shade fabric at InWeave.

Come on spring!

Click here to watch a tutorial by a sweet lady who shows us how to make a fabric rose for a custom greeting card.  Could also be applied to a hair bow, a t-shirt or a pillow.

We have so many fabrics that would work well for this project.  Check out our selection at   InWeaveFabric.com
