Ornament from Cord

Friday, November 26th, 2010

This is the easiest ornament I have made this year and I think it is one of the best looking.  It really sparkles when it is hanging on the lit tree.

Only three things are needed:   a  styrofoam ball (I used a 2 1/2 inch ball) , straight pins and cording from InWeave.

Begin by taping the end of the cord with clear tape, pin the taped end to the ball.  Curl the cord around the taped end, pinning when necessary to keep the cording tight to the ball, approximately twice for every time around the ball.  Keep wrapping the ball with the cord until you have it covered.  Pin securely at the top, tape the cord about 5 inches from the ball.  Cut the cord in the center of this taped area.  Pin the taped end to the ball forming a loop with which you will hang your ornament.

Use that iron!

Friday, January 8th, 2010

Have you ever embarked on a sewing project only to be disappointed with less than professional results? Many people are not aware of the importance of the iron and ironing board when sewing. Next to your sewing machine, your iron and ironing board are the most important tools when sewing.

Always be sure to test the heat of your iron on a fabric scrap before ironing on the actual project. Seams should always be pressed. When seaming with a conventional sewing machine, seams should be pressed open. If you are seaming with a serger, press seams to one side. Also, when turning a piece right side out that has been stitched together, always press after turning is complete.

Don’t skimp or try to take shortcuts by ignoring that important step of pressing when sewing. It will make all the difference!
