- Type of Fabric: Mid to heavyweight cotton velvet fabric. 55" wide. About 21 oz. per square (not running) yard. Excellent for draperies, pillows and similar projects. May be used for light to medium use upholstery projects (headboards, upholstered valances, side chairs, antique furniture). Great weight for costumes & clothing. Has a matte (non-shiny) appearance. The quality of this fabric is superb. Although the fabric is not deeply plush, it has soft, smooth surface and a hand that drapes well. This velvet is treated for fire retardation and was originally made for commercial use. We cannot certify any particular rating for fire retardation. It would be great for drapes or draping walls in a media room because very little (if any) light penetrates.
