About In-Weave![]() We (Julie and Don Ulmer) started In-Weave in 1990 with a single loom in a small building in Hawarden, Iowa. We produced hand-woven 13” to 28” wide rugs which we exhibited at art and craft shows around the country. Rugs Our first rugs were traditional “rag rugs” made from new materials with heat-set warp. They were tightly beaten with even selveges, washable, and extremely durable due to the heat set warp and tight beating. Word of our high quality rugs spread quickly. The demand for our rugs in a greater variety of sizes led to the expansion of In-Weave. We presently have 9 looms, allowing for production of rugs ranging in widths from 13” wide rugs to 8’ wide area rugs. Don built and designed the 4’, 6’ and 8’ wide looms. We later added “looper rugs” made from the tops of new tube socks. In 2003, we expanded our offerings to include “trimmings rugs” made from upholstery selveges. These rugs have a shaggy texture and are extremely popular at craft shows and art festivals. Our variety of loom sizes and our large fabric and trimmings selection allow us to work with customers to produce rugs in sizes and colors that meet their specific needs. We often match wallpaper, paint, and flooring samples to produce a rug unique to the customer’s home and decor. We are confident you will find the quality of our woven items second to none. We welcome the opportunity to design a piece specifically for your home. Call us at 1-800-646-9328 and let us help you create a piece you will cherish for years to come. Fabric By The Pound and Trimmings As our weaving business grew, so did our need for fabric. Julie began to source and purchase “mill ends” – narrow rolls of fabric used by weavers, crocheters and crafters. We currently stock more than 30,000 lbs. of fabric rolls. When we began weaving Trimmings Rugs in 2003, we needed a source for new upholstery selveges. These selveges are long “strings” of fibers – a waste product of the upholstery manufacturing process. Julie was again able to locate a source for these trimmings. We now stock thousands of pounds of trimmings for our own use and for sale to other weavers. We invite weavers, crocheters and crafters to contact us for all your mill end and trimmings needs. Fabric By The Yard Julie’s involvement in locating fabric for weaving led to contacts with a number of fabric wholesalers and manufacturing concerns. In 1993 a neighboring store went out of business and we were able to join their 2 buildings with our 1st building. The neighboring business had stocked some yard goods so with the added space and our contacts with fabric companies, we expanded into the sale of yard goods. We offer quality fabrics and try to keep our prices at Factory Outlet or Wholesale prices. We hope that you find that our beautiful fabrics compete favorably with fabric stores in your vicinity. Over the years we’ve tended to specialize primarily in fabrics for home decorating – sheers, drapery and upholstery fabrics but we try to offer a little of everything. We try to locate good buys and pass the savings along to our customers. In 1998, we created www.inweave.com and in 2002, we began offering fabrics on E-Bay. We also added a warehouse in 2002 to provide storage for our ever-growing fabric and trimmings selection. (We admit it – our staff is made up of “fabriholics”!) Our staff is always willing to assist customers so please let us know if you have any suggestions or requests. We look forward to hearing from you and to expanding In-Weave as the years go by.
